“Never the Same Forest” is an idea from the sentence “Never the same River” proposed by the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus. Compared to river, which is running every second, the forest seems to change less rapidly. If you sit in a forest for an afternoon, you probably wouldn’t feel there’s any difference. However, if you go back to the same forest after a period of time, you will notice that it’s not the same forest that you have been.

Most of my work is made for a particular moment and site. Therefore, after the time had pass and the place has changed, the installations will not be able to reproduce the same experience and meaning from the work. Meanwhile, I, the creator of these works, is not the same person either. I have changed since the minute I made these works.

The works in this exhibition were brought to Taiwan with me two years ago, and they had been staying in boxes and bubble wraps ever since then. When I open them, it felt like I went back to the forest I’ve been to, only I saw something new, because it is not the same forest now. In this exhibition, I made a few changes to every works, so that they can all become a work belong to the present.

With me constantly changing, my works should be the same.
